Cloud computing platforms are spreading across multiple environments today, serving as IT infrastructure. It’s not only the trend but also a necessity. In response to that, the Icelandic government has signed a historic agreement and chosen Microsoft 365 as the platform for all governmental employees.
The agreement was signed on June 1st, 2018 and includes central administration, health sector and educational institutions. The Icelandic government’s idea focused on simplifying infrastructure offering a central spot for all licenses, as well as improved public services, productivity and synergy between the institutions and their personnel. That’s why the government decided to build a single cloud platform based on Microsoft 365. The solution provides number of advantages, such as effective communication and collaboration between institutions, as well as improved security.
It’s not all about technology, however. The agreement with Microsoft has changed the way of understanding the public sector and public services. – As more countries digitalize their public services, they experience on increasing demand from other institutions and employees and also from citizens. This increases the need to streamline and enhance services, products and processes, not to mention the level of security. Iceland is not afraid of being a front-runner, and that is quite admirable- said Peter Quarfordts Skov, Director of Public Sector at Microsoft Denmark & Iceland.
The main objective of Icelandic government is to provide secure, modern workplaces by consolidating IT solutions and simplifying IT operations. The relation between efficient work and modern IT infrastructure has become a hot topic. The example of Iceland showcases the role of cloud in improving development and collaboration.
