With the next edition of the VMworld Europe conference Barcelona turned into the world’s capital of trends and IT. Each edition of the conference is a must event for hundreds of visitors as brings lots of valuable, practical knowledge. Once again, we had the pleasure to be a part of this event.
From a SME to a listed company in two decades
VMworld 2018 was special as it celebrated the 20th anniversary of VMware and the 10th anniversary of VMworld Europe, with as many as 12,000 participants gathered in Barcelona’s Fira Gran Via conference center.
VMware has achieved an unprecedented and enviable success by growing from a small company to a New York Stock Exchange listed company in just two decades. Currently, the company employs over 7,000 people and is one of trend-setting market leaders in workstation virtualization, IT environment enhancement, hyperconvergent infrastructure and cloud solutions.
VMworld 2018: how was it?
This year’s VMware’s conference was a great opportunity to learn more about the Software-Defined approach to business and IT. Senetic’s Software Business Unit Manager Jacek Kotynia, together with Tomasz Stojek, Technical Services Director of the Warsaw branch, learned all about the new possibilities of the vSphere version at the interesting panels dedicated to the development of virtualization technology. They provided knowledge about the development of VMware’s products: vSan, NSX and vRealize.
This year, the four main topics related to the development of VMware were:
- cloud solutions with their numerous services,
- development of applications and services available on mobile devices,
- AI and the tools for its development and learning,
- development and analysis of IoT data.
Especially popular were the sessions related to increasing security of companies in the 21st century. The modern labor market is undergoing a considerable revolution. More and more often employees want to work from any place in the world, using various devices (increasingly mobile), often private equipment. In such a work system, the security of data which should be taken care of is extremely important.
This year’s business panels at VMworld 2018 run in four main threads:
- cloud integration with company infrastructure,
- modernization of client infrastructure, with related opportunities and threats,
- extended digital workspaces,
- development of network infrastructure and maintaining a high level of security.
Specialists, industry authorities and key representatives of VMware spoke on the most important current issues in the world of technology and the trends for the near future. New VMware solutions, examples of best practices and innovative implementations were presented, as well as a number of proposals for solving practical problems that many companies in the IT industry face. The conference also offered numerous certification workshops and trainings.
VMworld was not only an occasion to broaden one’s knowledge or check the pulse of the IT industry. It was also a great opportunity to broaden one’s musical horizons! This year, the VMworldFEST panel hosted a concert of The Kooks and a band covering the songs of The Rolling Stones. It was a great musical experience that put everyone in a good mood.
