Microsoft 365 Copilot is a new feature being introduced by Microsoft that will revolutionize our office day-to-day lives soon. Copilot uses artificial intelligence to help users complete their tasks, improving efficiency and saving time.
The main goal of this tool will be to eliminate routine work that AI can help with, thus giving us more space for creative activities. AI-based solutions are opening a whole new chapter in the approach to productivity as well as efficiency and will become the engine for even greater acceleration in the near future.
Imagine that you provide a simple command and your personal assistant prepares a Power Point presentation for you on a topic of your choosing. Just one sentence is enough to perform the data analysis and obtain a clear-cut answer. Copilot will help you summarize long threads in your emails and prepare suggested responses. It will generate answers anchored in your business content (documents, emails, calendar, chats, meetings, contacts and other business data) and linked with the specific context (the meeting you’re in right now, the email exchanges you’ve had on a particular topic, the chat conversations you had last week). Sounds amazing? It’s just the beginning!

Copilot is integrated into Microsoft 365 in two ways. In order to boost productivity, it has been built into the Microsoft 365 applications you use every day – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and many more. The second option is Business Chat, which works within LLM, Microsoft 365 applications and your data – calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings and contacts. What capabilities does it offer? For example, you can issue a command „Tell the team how the sales strategy has changed” and it will generate a status update based on the morning meetings, emails and chat threads. Your words and your natural language, rather than a sequence of commands or code, become a powerful productivity tool.
How will Copilot change classic applications?
Word – with Copilot’s support, you don’t have to start with a blank page. Artificial intelligence gives you a first draft of a text on a given topic for you to just edit, saving the time you would spend sourcing the material and pouring your initial thoughts into a document. As the author, you have control over what Copilot prompts you with and you can introduce your unique ideas based on the initial proposal. Copilot can also be an editor and write summaries of long texts or arrange them in a more concise (or long-winded) way.

PowerPoint – Copilot will help you create a compelling presentation based on your command or the documents you want to link to the presentation topic.

Excel – artificial intelligence will help you analyze data, identify trends and create professional data visualizations in seconds. Knowledge of complex rules will no longer be necessary, you just need to formulate your needs directly so that Excel processes them according to our expectations.

Teams – Copilot will help summarize key points of discussion – recounting who said what and where the team agrees and disagrees. With access to the company calendar, Copilot helps you plan your next meeting so that it fits everyone and doesn’t clash with anything.

Outlook – AI can summarize long messages, prepare a reply based on specific points, or turn quick notes into a full-fledged email in the communication style you indicate.

Above all, AI will also change the approach to tools. Most people use just a handful of tools and commands that powerful platforms such as Excel or PowerPoint are made of. Now all this rich functionality can be unlocked using only natural language.

Copilot is built on Microsoft’s comprehensive approach to security, compliance and privacy. It is integrated with Microsoft 365 and automatically inherits all of your company’s valuable security rules (such as multifactor authentication), compliance and privacy policies. Copilot is a big timesaver for teams and it lowers the risk of mistakes because it operates on a gigantic dataset. When exactly will Copilot officially make its way into the publicly available Microsoft solution suite? We don’t know yet, but the manufacturer indicates that it should happen at the end of 2023.
